The most common computer monitors are 2 types.
The most common is the cathode ray tube. This is the guy who is probably best known is also the oldest type design

electron tube in which electrons are accelerated by anode high tension, formed in a beam focusing electrodes, and projected onto a phosphorescent screen that forms one side of the tube. The electron beam leaves a bright spot wherever that strikes the phosphor screen. To form a screen or the image on the screen, the electron beam is deflected in the vertical and horizontal directions either by the effect electrostatic electrodes inside the tube or by magnetic fields produced by coils located in the neck of the tube. Some cathode-ray tubes can produce multiple Electron beam and have phosphor screens that are capable of displaying more than one color. Cathode ray tubes used in televisions, computers, cash machines, oscilloscopes, radar screens and this is the type of monitor you are most familiar.
The newer type is called liquid crystal show a liquid crystal display or LCD screen is a thin and lightweight. This is a controlled electric light polarization fluid trapped in the cells of the polarization between two transparent sheets. The axes of polarization of the two sheets are aligned perpendicular to each other. Each cell is supplied with electrical contacts that allow an electric field is applied to the liquid interior.
Before an electric field is applied, the long, thin molecules in the liquid are in a relaxed state. Ridges on the top and bottom sheet encourage polarization of the molecules parallel to the light polarization direction of the leaves. Between the sheets, the polarization of the molecules twists naturally between the two ends perpendicular. The light is polarized by a sheet, rotated through movement soft crystal molecules, then passes through the second sheet. The whole assembly looks nearly transparent. A slight darkening will be evident because loss of light polarization in the original sheet.
When an electric field is applied, the liquid molecules are aligned with the field, inhibiting rotation of polarized light. As the light hits the polarizing sheet perpendicular to the direction of polarization of the light is absorbed and the cell appears dark.
The newer type has a native resolution of this method can not change the point size or resolution as you can with cathode ray tube or old type.
